A place, not a feed
What is Palace?
Palace is visual chat built around shared rooms. You enter a place, choose how you appear, and talk inside the world instead of posting into a feed.
Original visual demonstration · not live room presence
An illustrated burgundy room holds two abstract, fictitious avatars. Speech appears beside them, a smiley and prop rest in the space, and a glowing doorway suggests a hotspot leading to another room.
The visual-chat idea
People make the room feel alive.
Palace turns conversation into a shared, spatial experience. The room is part of what people say: where they stand, what they wear, what they place, and what they build together.
- Rooms
- Illustrated places with a mood, a layout, and paths into other places.
- Avatars
- The visible character or image you use to appear inside a room.
- Props & smileys
- Small images people wear, place, trade, and use to add expression.
- Scripts & art
- Creative tools that can make rooms respond, change, or tell a story.
- Hotspots
- Clickable areas that can open a door, reveal information, or move you elsewhere.
- Conversation
- Speech appears in the visual world near the people who are talking.
Enter rather than scroll
A room has a shared point of view.
A feed arranges separate posts into a stream. Palace places people in the same scene. You notice who arrived, what changed, where a doorway leads, and how the room responds.
That does not mean every visit is busy or every room is occupied. The website does not display live presence. It shows the visual idea honestly so you can decide whether to enter.

A living tradition
Avatar Palace is one independent Palace community.
The Palace began in the 1990s. Avatar Palace is a later community carrying its visual-chat tradition forward; it did not create the original Palace ecosystem.
Modern compatible clients and resources are maintained by independent Palace contributors. We are grateful to the original creators, to OpenText as part of the Palace's later history, and to room artists, prop makers, scripters, operators, archivists, community caretakers, and modern contributors who kept the idea alive.
Avatar Palace is independently operated. Gratitude and links do not imply ownership, endorsement, partnership, or organizational affiliation.
